No-Sew Ghost Garland
Make soft, wispy ghosts for a mantel, doorway, bookcase, or dry covered porch. A slightly crooked ghost only adds personality.
Make it step by step
Cut the fabric
Cut two fabric squares about ten inches wide for each ghost. Uneven edges help make a wispy shape.
Make a head
Put a cotton ball, foam ball, or small tissue bundle in the center of the first square. Lay the second square over it at an angle so the corners do not line up.
Shape the ghost
Gather both layers beneath the ball. Wrap yarn around the neck two or three times and tie a snug knot. Let the remaining fabric hang down.
Give it movement
Pull and separate the corners gently. Trim an edge if needed, keeping the bottom uneven. Pinch the fabric into soft folds.
Add a face
Draw oval eyes with a fabric marker. Add a mouth or a raised eyebrow if you like. Glue on felt or paper features instead, and let them dry.
Make a hanging loop
Cut a six-inch piece of yarn. Slide it under the yarn at the neck and knot the ends together above the ghost. Repeat for each ghost.
Build the garland
Cut twine to fit your display area, leaving extra length for tying. Slide the loops onto it, spacing ghosts four to six inches apart. Tie each loop in place or add a tiny clothespin.
Hang and adjust
Tie the garland to secure hooks and face the ghosts forward. Add orange ribbon, bells, or paper bats between them.
